Babette's intimates

Last night was the season premiere episode of Gilmore Girls and the first time the show has been helmed by anyone other than Amy Palladino - and it was not that bad. We should be ok in David Rosenthal's hands.

The story line is a tough one though - Lor slept with Chris - Luke has been dropped... and Rory - well, no one is really that into her tale.

The Long Morrow story was really cool and I did laugh out loud quite a few times (Kirk Evil Kinevil'n it into Lukes diner was classic!!). I am a little down with where Lor and Luke are - but this season could be a step forward from last year - we will have to see.

Got some Vegas trip pics for ye - enjoy the slide show to the magical tunes of Wilco!

I am still very busy at work - thus the humorless post - but hopefully soon I will get back to blogging some pee-rific posts - in the mean time, try not to stone Deit too much for his acerbic and cruel words. He is old after all.

Oh - and I turn 30 on Saturday... there, that's done.

"This could be the very minute..."

Hello Damfinoites,

The weekend is upon us and many a happenings be happening. First, "The Last Kiss" opens today - if you don't know about the film, it stars our beloved Zach Braff as a near 30 year old who is getting ready to settle in with his girlfriend. He freaks out when he meets a young horny hottie... things go bad.

A creepy note - Erik Christensen is in the film and Cara went to school with him! She was not really thrilled to see it - then I mentioned he was naked in the film... and her excitement grew. Odd.

Here is the trailer - check it out and go see it - support our boy!

Also, Brian DePalma has a new thriller hitting theaters - "The Black Dahlia." I actually read the book and the bio by James Ellroy about his own mother that goes along with this. TBD is about an aspiring actress that is murdered - Ellroy's own mother was murdered in such a fashion - thus his interest in the subject.

The film should be entertaining - it is nice to see DePalma back in the mainstream - and pushing Scarlett Johanson along with him!!

Not sure if I will get to see it this weekend - because it is IOWA VS ISU!!!! Cara and I head up to Iowa City tonight to party it up - then off to the game early tomorrow morning. Hopefully all will go well for our boys.

Finally, I am heading out to Vegas next week for some fun with my girly. Should come home plump - drunk - broke - but happy as a puppy with two peters!

Catch ya on the return - somebody post for God's sake!!

Eat-drink-repeat

Hello folks,

Sorry for the lack of posts this week - things are crazy at work.

Things on my mind; NFL started last night with the Dolphins losing to the Steelers - YAWN!! Culpepper did not look that great - and I am not sure how many points Cara got for having him in the Fantasy Football league.

Hollywoodland opens this weekend - I think Cara and I are seeing it tonight. Should be good. The film is directed by Allen Coulter - my favorite director from The Sopranos... YEAH!

Finally, Iowa is off to Syracuse this weekend. Should be another win - but look on to next week when we play ISU. That will be a season defining game my friend.

I have a slide show from the game last week - enjoy... it is put together with the musical talents of the Hives!

Not a huge mistake!

Well fellow fino bloggers our AD journey has come to an end. Season 3 is out in stores now and has alrerady been purchased and watched by the cool kids. I am planning an AD marathon to watch the entire series in one Bluth filled sitting.

We will miss you Michael, George Michael, G.O.B., Lindsey, Tobias, Maybe, Lucile, George Sr. and Buster. May you live on in our DVD players and continue to make us do spit takes for many years to come.

7 a.m. beer

Last night's shockingly weak game of ISU vs. Toledo opened up our college football season. The Clones did some dirty huck and jive on the poor Toledo Rockets - doing some downright awful officiating and taking cheap shots on a smaller but determined QB. Never-the-less, they came out on top - and Ames is already rocking.

Tomorrow is the day all of us Hawkeye fans have been waiting months for - the first game of the year!

Last year was kind of a disappointment for most of us, watching the boys lose to ISU and go on to a mediocre 7-5 and a jipped loss to Florida. So of course, we have all been speculating how much we can make up for our mistakes - and how far will Tate take us this year!

I have heard crazy talk of 11-1 and some BCS glory - but I am not sure we will get that far. It does not matter anyway - Cara and I have season tickets and we are geared up and ready to party our tails off in IC!

Look forward to weekly pictures (or bi-weekly) from our debaucerous antics in Iowa City before each game. I am sure there will be plenty of fun to throw around.

Tomorrow is Iowa vs. Montana - a glorified warm up... but a Hawkeye game none the less!

Look what the cat dragged in...

So...last night in Minn-e-sotah, Dan and I took in a little Poison and Firehouse.

The concert rocked like only an 80's hair band can rock. We have probably never had so much fun and CC was amazing on guitar. He even sang a song (that was pretty crappy, but anyway...). So, if you happen to be near a Poison concert in the next few years - GO. There is nothing quite like hearing "Every Rose Has a Thorn" in person - oh and from the 15th row on the floor. Yes kids...we felt the heat and the sweat and the spit from our seats. Amazing.

In case you all were curious - here is my new ride. I just bought it this past weekend and LOVE it. Oh and it has a sun roof - which is the closest you can get to a convertible with 4x4. Now on to off-roading...

We're a-movin' on ...over! :)

Geez, there has been some surprising, excellent, and wonderful news on DAMFINOBLOG recently! But, oh no, not enough, I have more to add!

It's time to let the cat out of the bag. Sheriff, Buttercup, and (as of yesterday) Damfino already know this, and I choose now to let the rest of the DAMFINO community know what's up.

The "Michigan McCabes" will soon be "The young Iowa McCabes"!!!! Yep, we're movin' - back "home" - to Iowa!!

Long story short, we got a taste of being closer to our Iowa family and friends by moving to Michigan, but we're still not close enough! Plus, that darn drive through construction-ridden Chicago sucks...

Initially we'd talked about moving to the Minneapolis/St. Paul region. But, as fate would have it, a recruiter for a position in M/St. P called Trish and said she was actually looking to fill positions at Rockwell in Cedar Rapids. We took that as a sign, and it was SO on from that moment!

Roughly 3 weeks ago Trish applied on-line for a few positions. Four Rockwell managers contacted Trish over the following 2 weeks! She had phone interviews with all of them, and interviewed on-site last Friday and Monday. A Rockwell HR rep called Trish yesterday and extended 3 initial offers!

Rockwell is doing a lot of hiring, and with Trish's great on-the-job performance, experience, work ethic, and background, I knew it would just be a matter of time. This is pretty darn ridiculously quick, though!

Of course there are major and minor details to work out, but we'll be moving soon!

I do wish we could've had more folks visit us at our MI home, but that's moot now - now you can have a much shorter drive and visit us at our Iowa home!!! Oh yeah, I am gonna be hosting some killer poker tournaments!

BE PREPARED - ARE YOU READY FOR THE MCCABE INVASION?!?! :)

In honor of Josh's special day - I thought I would share this video clip from Camp last year. Josh does a heck of a job at hoping on a raft.

I have a question for you...

She woke from a dream
Her head was on fire
Why was he so nervous
He took her to the park
She crossed her arms and
lowered her eye lids

Someday somebody's gonna ask you
A question that you should say yes to
once in your life
Maybe tonight
ive got a querstion for you

She'd had no idea
started to cry
she said in a good way
he took her by the hand
walked her back home
they took the long way

someday somebody's gonna ask you
a question that you should say yes to
once in your life
maybe tonight
ive got a question for you

My older brother Josh decided to blow my mind yesterday and announced that he has asked his girlfriend Christi to marry him.

Holy Crap!

She said yes.

HOLY CRAP!!!!

Apparently the sneaky devil had been saving up for a ring for a while (penny-pinching miser has not bought me any McDonald's for months!!) - and finally yesterday he tossed the ring at the girl.

I guess I am in a state of shock! I have not had many bonding hours with Christi - looks like we are going to have to take down a bottle of Gin together and discuss the world and why we are here. I mean - she is going to be my sister in law!!!

But the most mind swirling fact is that Josh is getting married! MY BROTHER!!!! I am so proud of him!

Way to go my man! May the heads begin to spin with this news.

I have added a little slide show to celebrate - it does include music.

Who needs a vacation!

Well that was quick. Cara and I packed up and took off for Frye Camp on Tuesday night and a few short days later we returned home. The time slipped away all too quickly.

Camp this year was sorta rainy - but we had a very nice Wednesday where I actually got to get a little bit of a tan! Josh did not make it up but Prego-Hol and Dan did, as well as Caleb-Mom-Grandma-Aunt Dee-Heather - and Caleb's friend Oliver!

This was the first trip up for Cara. She seemed to really enjoy the place, but methinks she is quite the city girl. She liked the fishing (of which we caught none!) but when it came to swimming in the lake - Cara sorta winced. BUT - she did swim with me a few times!! She is a good girl!

This pic is the final morning we were there. The sun lit the lake in such a beautiful way - I did not have to work to make these pictures look unbelievable! I have made another little video of all of the pictures - feel free to take a look.

Finally, when I got home I found a nice little package from Iowa in the mail! OUR SEASON TICKETS!!!! First game is September 2nd!!!

Frye Camp '06

Hello kids,

Well - it is that time of year again. Time to load up the fishing gear, slap on some tanning lotion and pack up the mouse traps. It's time to head to Frye Camp!

I will be gone for the week - I know you will all miss me desperately! Don't stress it, I will return.

Until then, here is a picture of Cara running at Farm Bureau. She would kill me for this - but she never reads the blog. Serves her right then!

pretty pictures

Not much to report today - I just wanted to toss up some poster images that I have been mulling over for the past couple of weeks. First is some Spider-man 3 stuff! The above image is a killer poster! It works with the teaser quite well. Below are two singles of Peter and Venom (Brock Landers) - pretty flipping sweet!

If you have not seen the teaser - then head on out to Apple.com and watch the HD version. Sam Raimi looks to hit this one out of the park just like Spidey 2!

Ok, now here are some really cool posters. The film is Grindhouse, but it consists of two stories; one directed by Robert Rodriguez called "Planet Terror" and the other directed by Quentin Tarantino called "Death Proof." I could care less about Rodgriguez's stuff - but Tarantino always brings his A game. "Death Proof" is starring Kurt Russell and looks to kick some major @ss!!

Grindhouse opens in April and Spider-man 3 opens in May - YEEEEHAAAAAA!

Caleb hearts iMac!

This is my little brother Caleb. When Caleb gets an idea in his head he is pretty determined to see it through. So when my mother mentioned that they might get a computer - Caleb began his qwest to drive her insane.

Last week, after many challenges and choices about Mac Mini's and Macbooks - Caleb got himself an iMac! I could not be happier for the family. This is a really strong machine, built with the Intel Duo Core processor and about 160 GB of hard drive space. He has iMovie and iDVD at his disposal - and also the ultra cool Garage Band! I made a song in about 20 minutes!!!

Here is the song - and some pics of the Kern Returns to boot!

Jed's song on Vimeo

So now my little brother will be on the internet all of the time... I fully expect him to write me daily - and to use this new machine to make a ton of movies and soundtracks.

That's what I would have done!!

"We're gonna rock yer f*cking socks off!"

Finally... finally! How long have we waited - it seems like it has been years upon years since we loved the D! They have been away for such a long time - but now they have finally arrived.

"Tenacious D! Pick of Destiny!"

We all know the tale; two simple men find one another - and the perfect rock band was created. If you don't know of the D then you should not be reading this blog.

JB and KG - together - searching for the one guitar pick to lead their band to rock heaven.

Here is the trailer for the film and it looks like it will follow the story of the D pretty closely! We can see they are once again re-telling the tale of challenging Satan, our dark lord, to a rock off!

I also caught a glimpse of old Sasquatch in there! He is from the TV show that was on HBO. Good old Sasquatch... maybe this time they will stay friends.

I have no idea when the film is supposed to hit theaters - the release date has changed up so much it is hard to follow. We just need to take solace in the fact that a trailer has arrived - and the D will be here very soon.

Until then...

"ALL THE LADIES IN THE HOUSE SAY YEAH - COME ON YOU MOTHERF*CKERS SAY A PRAYER - YOU LIKE TO FIGHT DIRTY? YOU LIKE TO FIGHT FAIR? COME ONE YOU MOTHERF*CKERS! YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS?????

IT'S TENACIOUS D TIME YOUR MOTHERF*CKING BLOWN!!!!

"Over the Flop!"

Hello all,

Sheriff, Buttercup and the puppy posse went to Michigan this weekend to visit Flop the Nuts and his family. Fun was had, some hold-em was played and the Dreamworks film"Over the Hedge" was enjoyed by all. The time always seems to go by too fast. Flop has quite an estate up there in God's country so if any of you Fino Blogers are ever in the area be sure to drop in.

"How do you get your urine on a corpse?"

Shane Black was a god in my youth! It is crazy how my sense of humor has been molded by this seriously underrated writer. He has worked on some of the finest in popular entertainment (Tony Scott - Richard Donner - John McTiernan) and now has stepped out on his own to direct.

Wait - I f*cked up... let me start again!

I have a soft spot for a funny action flick. I love "Lethal Weapon" - I cherish the finer moments of "The Long Kiss Goodnight" and frankly think that "Predator" is a work of art! All of these films combine action, blood, and humor in their own odd ways. That's where Shane Black comes in.

Damnit - this is not working for me. What the f*ck is wrong with me today. I just want to talk about Shane Black and the movie he made. F*ck a duck.

Anyway, I get a call from the Sheriff last night about 10:30. He has just watched Shane Black's masterpiece "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and cannot contain his joygasm. You see, for Kreitner and I, there is no finer 5 up t&t film than a quality action comedy. And "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" knocks one out of the park for the genre.

The film stars Val Kilmer, Robert Downey Jr. and Michelle Monaghan as three people stuck in a ludicris murder mystery. Val plays Gay Perry - handler to the stars. Downey plays the narrator - often taking high wattage torture to his boys, and Monaghan plays the girl - she shows her boobs.

Christ! There I go - derailing with this review/internal ramble. What the hell does Michelle Monaghan's boobs have to do with anything!??!

The film opened and disappeared without much fanfare last December. I knew it was out there - hell, I at least knew who Shane Black was! But I never caught the film, until it hit DVD. Now, "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" does not work that well as a complete film. It really lacks some deep characters and a overall point to it... but what it does do it does really well. It has style coming out of its geriactric extras! The film has tons of little inside gags (Kreitner found a few frames of Richard Greico in the film!!) - and frankly it is just a ball to watch!

Here are the marching orders - go rent - buy - steal "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang." You won't regret it.

And Michelle gets naked.

To those in the Midwest - sorry we said f*ck so much!

Hmmmm?

I just found an interesting review of "Lady in the Water" that has sent my old filmic senses tingling!

review

The writer seems unsure of the film - but not in the "does it suck?" way - but more in the "is it as interesting as I think?" way. The writer stresses that Night has pushed his filmaking style back to classic form - leaning hard on Hitchcock and dropping the artsy shots of his past. He also mentions that the "twist" ending is gone - these are both positive changes.

But Night himself has a large role in the film - and it seems this writer (and most critics I have read) really questions his choice in playing the part.

I was not thrilled to see this - the ads look boring... and "the Village" did not blow my mind. But after reading that review.... I think I will go see it this weekend!
