Must-kill-Paul-Anka

Here is the cover art for the 6th season of Gilmore Girls!

I am not sure why - but when I look at this... I just start to whimper and cry like a baby. Something about Lorelai's face at the end of the season...

It just breaks my heart.

1200 minutes of tape later...

After four months of planning - and two weeks of shooting - I have wrapped on the largest project that has ever come my way. I got to play director for 10 solid days - and I have never done anything so exhilarating and frustrating!

We hired 24 actors and had a crew of 15 working everyday. The show itself was about families and dealing with conflicts that come up - the scenes we shot usually had actors scolding a child or handling a situation.

It was fun stuff.

Blocking scenes - working one on one with actors - designing shots... this project was the reason I took up an interest in production oh so many years ago. Things went pretty well. I only had a few major melt downs... and the images we got were quite impressive.

Now we edit - do some animation... sit back and sip some G&T's.

C'mon C'mon!!

Gilmore may have flittered away - Veronica might have Beavered the hell out of us - and Scrubs might have disappeared to live to inspire another day... but none of this means that the TV will sit unused for months!

FX is premiering the 3rd season of Rescue Me tonight! I have not seen any of the ads - nor can I really remember where we left off last season (something about a dead kid and a hit being done) - but I am jazzed none the less.

Rescue Me is a tough show to support; often the series can be brilliant and then spin and produce some of the most trite laiden garbage that can be seen!

Yet - there is no denying that the show is fun - and funny!

I'll be watching... at least, when I find time to sit and watch anything. Who knew summer could be so busy?

Cara and I did a road trip to Minneapolis this weekend (she dropped some major cash at IKEA - I bought "drunkard" wine glasses) - had a wonderous time. Hope everyone had a very nice Memorial day!

Can you say BTK?

So another season has passed us - the girls are away on sabatical for a few months and we, loyal viewers, are left to ponder futher witty interactions and quarrels. Yet, something about the end of this year pushes the bile from my gut to my lips.

Amy and Daniel are gone - Rory is left in shambles (though I bet ol Logan will be coming right back) - and Lor... poor Lor... has completely left the atmosphere. Essentially, the show is shot to hell.

Sadly, I think I need to blame Amy and Daniel for it. The Luke/April turn for his character never really worked or even looked like anything but a dramatic insertion. Lor's decision to not intervene (and Luke's desire for it) was totally off character. And what we are left with as viewers... is stomach churning.

Sure - it is dramatic... but how can you giggle with such damage being done to those we love so? Everyone is working very hard with the material they are given - Lauren Graham knocked more than a few out of the park... but the end result is frustrating to say the least!

Next year will be very different - gone are the days of cheerful giggles... from the viewer!!! Sure, the show will attempt to bring that feeling back... but some choices are just to hard to forgive. And frankly - I think it would be wise for everyone to step back and really think about where this thing is headed... and if any of us want to be there at the end.

Blind. Torture. Kill.

Happy Anniversary, Damfinoblog!

Mr. Damfino: Man of The Hour

I meant to do this last week, but I kind of spaced it, quite honestly. But as they say, there is no time like the present, right?

So join me in wishing the Damfinoblog a happy birthday. It may not seem like it, but Jed's blog which has been the impetus for new friendships, new filth, and new fun has been in existence one full year!

So join me in raising a toast to Mr. Fino, without whose blog, I would not likely have been inspired enough to write reviews, or apply to Tiny Mix Tapes or start my own outfit. So for that I would like to give a hearty thanks and congratulations to our witty and benevolent benefactor.

Cheers, Jed.

And cheers to all of the folks who make the Damfinoblog one of the best places in the world to be. Well, on the internet, anyway.

Hugs and s***,

Kern

He dun knocked up my sis!!!

As of last Friday, Dan and Holly announced that they are pregnant!! She is 12 weeks along and does not know the sex of the child yet. I am betting it will be a boy - we have 4 other boy grandchildren in the family.

Hol is due on November 12th (I think)!

I will be an Uncle... and now the gray hair won't seem so weird. Seeing Hol with a big belly will be though... whoa!

May the gestating begin!!!

So I am back from the trip - and I still don't have time to do anything. I whipped up a quick slideshow of the pictures. Sorry, they still contain work images - but some of you might like those too.

VEGAS

Good to be home - 6 days of lights and ladies of the night were a bit much.

The Kern Returns Tagline Contest 2006

Finally, the moment some of you have been waiting for!

In keeping with a tradition that The Sheriff began last year, we're going to have another tagline contest as we did last year.

I wouldn't say there are any hard and fast rules, but I will say that I think fortune favors the Bold and The Filthy. And the clever. So be creative and give it all you've got.

As far as prizes, I think there will be more Amazon giftage up for grabs, but here's the part I want some feedback on. Should we have a winner and runner up like last time, or should we just have one big grand prize and everyone else gets sweet F.A.? Let me know what you think.

Please send all entries, as many as you like to thediscerningkern@gmail.com.

The deadline for this contest is 11:59 June 20th. I will announce the winners on Kern's blog on the 21st, one day before The Kern Returns to DM, and two days before the The Kern Returns 2006 Blowout.

So good luck and get to it!
