Old and Older

We don't hear much from this Minnesotian any more - but today is KJ's 28th birthday!!!

Live it up girlie!!!

Everyone should send on some birthday love - I am just going to remind her that in 2 more short years she is going to be as old as dirt...

I am dirt.

Happy B-Day to KJ! I'm not too far behind. December 19th I'll be joining the "28 Club" as well.

Revel in your youth! Whoop it up as the kids say! These are the days, as that delightful Natalie Merchant once said.

[It should be noted that Kern only remembers Natalie Merchant from his youth. He does not, and never has owned any of her CD's including her work with 10,000 Maniacs. He did stare at her cleavage during MTV Unplugged, however, as he is a lonely, lonely man.-Ed.]

This is totally not on this thread's topic, but I don't have time to do a nice post. I saw Prarie Home Campanion last night. There is a movie about death! Have you ever been to a hospice? Those who have will have an odd feeling seeing this film. The entire movie is about sitting around waiting for someone to die. The feeling that this is the end is all around the movie.

In typical Altman fashion the film drifts along not so much telling a story as uncovering characters. And he was working with some of his greatest characters too. I would have loved to have seen so much more of that movie. I felt cheated when it ended so soon. It's not his greatest work, but it was very nice. Like the sort of awkward poem one may read at the death of a loved one. It was a fitting end to a filmmaker we will not see again.

Oh, and what's wrong with Natalie Merchant? I own the two essential 10,000 Maniacs CDs and the three good solo albums she did after that. I was listening to one of them just this last weekend!

Deit-In all honesty, there is nothing wrong with Natalie Merchant. It was sort of me taking a self deprecating poke at myself by joking that I might actually like some albums that aren't from some foreign country's films two decades ago or are so radically obscure that only two people have heard them.

Unfortunately, I think that's the only poke I'm destined for in the near future. (Zing!)

A short addendum: I didn't think Tigerlily was too great. But other than that, she's cool with me.

Thanks for the birthday wishes - I got too busy to drop by yesterday. Poo on work.

But never fear - all's well in (damn cold) Minnesota. Wedding plans are going really really well and Christmas is just around the corner. WOO HOO!
