3 times the fun?

Watched the second episode of Big Love last night and I am still not very impressed. This is definitely no Six Feet Under. I am going to give it one more try... if only for Harry Dean Stanton's sake!

For an in depth review - head over to Kern's blog.

Off to KC this weekend to see my cousin Jeremy and Cara's sister Tricia... expecting to get very very drunk.

Yo!

I agree that it's not Six Feet Under, but then again I think a lot of the shows that HBO releases in the wake of their first wave of flagship shows like The Sopranos and Six Feet Under are going to seem paltry in comparison.

As I reread my review, it was perhaps a little too glowing. However, I think that Big Love is quite a different type of show in the sense that it aims to in some warped respect, to be like a post-modern Father Knows Best, only highlighting the aspects regarding polygamy and Bill Paxton's ever present ass.

I think to some degree one's enjoyment of Big Love is largely dependent on how much one can detach themselves from the shows that might be seen as referential. While I can see the "Six Feet Under Approach" if you will, I don't think I went into it thinking about how it was going to fit that mold. Is it groundbreaking entertainment that grips you from the beginning like The Sopranos? No, certainly not. Is it a fun and amusing diversion with a slightly unconventional spin on traditional family shows? I think so.

That said, I am anxiously curled up in the fetal position waiting for The Wire, which is the only show that's run on HBO which has never let me down once in its entire run.

Oh, and Gates barbeque is the shit.

And Lamar's Donuts, the finest Goddamned donuts I have ever put in my mouth. And I come from a family of donut worshippers.

Has no one else tasted the heavenly goodness that is Lamar's Donuts? It's just wrong...sad and wrong.

Their donut holes are amazing.
