FOB tune

Guys - Here is one tune off of the new album - "Bang the Doldrums." It is my favorite song so far.

I didn't listen to the song, but let me say this: while FOB aren't my proverbial cup of tea, I do respect the fact that they seem to have a decent sense of humor about themselves and that Pete Wentz went to the mat with some fundamentalist nutjob down south who wrote a grammatical nightmare of a letter in which she was angry that he made a statement about not wanting bigots as fans, and how she would do everything in her power to get likeminded numbskulls to join her little hate club and ruin their tour. He graciously dispatched this impetuous ass barnacle in a really classy way without sinking to her level.

Credit where credit's due, and all...

Listen to the song... you won't like it (typical FOB) but you could then analyze why it ain't good.

Or ain't it?

Er....

I'll have to give it a spin at home. I am a man without speakers!

That's some sad sh*t Kern... sad.

Yeah, the workplace isn't really geared for musical enjoyment. Or any enjoyment for that matter...

but... the library?

Well, I haven't been working on the library project for a couple of years now. Though, they are now training me to be a backup receptionist. Everyone's always trying to hook up with the receptionists, so maybe this is a blessing in disguise.

So I listened to the song and here is my opinion.

Ultimately, it wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't say it was particularly good, either. It was vaguely catchy, but it didn't do anything that stood out as palpably different. The "Oh oh oh" shout along chorus has become a bit cliche in this genre as well. The thing about Fall Out Boy is that they are the best representatives of the bastardized emo genre, in that they seem pretty genuine and their songs are much better written than a lot of their upstart contemporaries such as My Chemical Romance and the like.

Interestingly, despite what people might think, Fall Out Boy's sound is so middle of the road that while I don't care for them, they don't inspire the metric ton of vitriol I would reserve for the rest of the genre.

Emo has been in a constant state of flux since its inception twenty odd years ago when Rites Of Spring began. While everything that came after that was starting to become a bastardized version of it, it's still a lot truer to the original ideal than the stuff we get today. I suggest going back and downloading Sunny Day Real Estate's album Diary for an example.

Of course, I am a geek. My opinions are extreme and people like what they like. But I still think you'd dig that Sunny Day Real Estate though.

I sing the "Oh oh oh!" chorus whilst running through the house in my boxers.

It is interesting... I despise a lot of music - Staind... a ton of country...

but then I listen to FOB - and I can see how everyone can hate it.

I just don't seem to care. It definitely makes me want Kreitner - McCabe - my girl - and some gin by my side!!!

Well, I respect that. I'm kind of on the flip side of that in a way. I listen to some kind of out there stuff, and people like my family(minus my mom, who is incredibly cool and will try almost any album once) give me a hard time about it, but they would rather call me a snob or weirdo than attempt to understand why I might be interested in it.

Anyway, I don't want you to think I'm hating on your musical choices. In general, even if I don't like something, I never give a person a hard time about it unless they act like it's just kind of background noise they picked out to decorate their life. I think it's people's indifference or lack of passion about music that bums me out more than anything, and I like that you like bands and don't give a shit who knows it.
