"F*ck you, Joey!"

The Kreitner's had a netflix movie night last night and took in "A History of Violence". Buttercup and I enjoyed the film and the ride it took us on. For some reason at the end both of us said "I wasn't expecting that from the film". I like to be taken on a journey that I can't see comming or that somehow is different from what my ideas of the film are pre-viewing. Bill Hurt's 15 min of screen time I watched with interest since he had been nominated for the Ocscar for best supporting actor. I did sniff out the demise of Ed Harris before the "shot" but otherwise my journey was unspoiled by my oft correct predictions. Lots of good extras on the disk too. A nice investment of 2 hours.

Sheriff-I also enjoyed the film. I was particularly interested in the angle Cronenberg took in regard to the duality of people, rather than just a straight up mob angle which is apparently what the book was.

It was ok boys - Cronenberg did his usualy weird cartoony life sucking actor direction on several people.

The movie seemed to want to have more of an impact than it ever really did.

Nice 69 scene though.

By the way, I saw V For Vendetta last night. I thought it was pretty awesome. I am going to eventually write a comparative piece about it and Fight Club.

Interesting stuff.

Actually, to further comment - it pisses me off when such violent images are collided with elements like Hurt's over the top performance. The film is attempting to display violence in a matter of fact way - but then negates all interest by showing just how fake the characters are!!

Cronenberg distances the audience sooo much from all of the characters (who the hell do we connect with - Maria Bello?!?) with all of his needs for showing sex and weirdness... that he loses all impact!

Think of how Sopranos handles violence - the dark humor is often added - but handled in a shockingly realistic way!! Never idiot cartoony ways.

One word about V outta you and I will fly out to Seattle and go Bruce Willis in Sin City on your manhood!

Haven't you read the book anyway?

Nice comic book ref in regard to your threat of violence on my vital bits.

You probably will want to skip the upcoming article then.

You're going to post before it comes out!?!?! I outta beat the indie out of you punk!

As far as History of Violence, I understand the whole thing about William Hurt's perfomance being over the top. I was displeased about that myself. I didn't think all of the violence was caricatured as you did I guess. I did kind of feel like there was a certain degree of abruptness and lack of continuity there which I found jarring and not really to my liking, but I don't think I feel the same way about the film overall.

Come on now. You know I never talk about specifics. I am the most spoiler hating guy I know. Are you trying to tell me that you don't think it's possible to write about the tone of something with speaking about it in specific?

The Fight Club/V comparison piece will likely not be worked on until late next week, well after the film has been out.

Oh, and don't get your testes in a twist. I haven't posted anything about anything yet.

If I recall, didn't someone once write about seeing Batman Begins before it came out last year?

Damfino said...

No - you are on crack! I posted about Deuce Bigelow the day it opened (saw if for free the night before!).

I want to rant more but I keep losing track because Carmella is staring at me in that Sopranos poster....oooooo

(Sorry - in other words, I have nothing of worth to contribute to this thread.)

Moving right along...there will be a similarly non-spoilerish article talking about the TONE of the piece, not the CONTENT, which a person may look at if they so choose.

Don't make me hit you with a Birkin bag, Cranks McGrumpy...

Oh, and Hi Flop!

Whaddup, Kern?! :)

Kern said...

Same old, Flop. You?

Jed, I had a wicked idea. I think I am going to go see Munich and then write an essay on the New Terrorist Film. It could be really good.

V For Vendetta/Fight Club/Munich.

I'll call it Sympathy For The Devil: An Examination Into The Empathetic Terrorist Film

That might get you on a few Government lists my boy.

Of course you are on a few already... "he's a pederast!"

Kern said...

Lucky for you they don't have government lists for yak sodomy.

No more turning Knotts Berry Farm into your own private Bunny Ranch.

They'd have your sensitives in a nutcraker and squeezing so hard the idea of a petting zoo would make you wet yourself with fear instead of pre-coital joy.

Damfino said...

Don't say coital.

Kern said...

How about Moist Coitus? How about that?

Damfino said...

Ugh

Ha ha ha! I win! I win!

The Filth Champeen is Kern!

I feel like I missed something. How is he the filth-master?? Nothing there was that filthy.

Kern said...

I think it's because I insinuated Jed likes to schtup animals, and I used the words Moist and Coitus, which earn me a Double Uncomfortable Word Score.

Deit, did you read my blog yesterday?

Damfino said...

Nobody wins until KJ says "Gross Jed!"

Deit Heimley said...

Well, I hope if he ever did have the chance to truely LOVE his animal friends, it would be both moist and cloital.

Yes, I did read your blog, and I loved it. I wanted to respond to a couple of things, but I didn't get time. Why are the gays winning the "Culture Wars?" Average household income is about $15,000 more than conservatives. That's why. So while the Conservatives can move their base more and move politics, they do not have the market power. Unfortunately, as we in Iowa can now attest, having market power in not assured if politics cause a stupid legislature to outlaw things that make money.

Yak sodomy - ROFL!!

Kern said...

See, Flop appreciates a solid ref about people doing the bow chicka bow bow with obscure animals.

Speaking of bow chicka bow bow, using the ultra cool visitor paths function on my Statcounter, I was able to see that yesterday a college student(I think)from Slovakia was looking for a definition of the English slang word "Bow chicka bow bow".

Hopefully, I was able to broaden this young man or lady's worldview, if only a little bit.

Kern said...

Deit-I thought it was generally the case that gay households usually do have more income, but I wasn't positive. I tried to imply that, but I was wary to put it in the article without having any real perspective on it.

My favorite line is about them having a Traditional Family sedan that only goes straight. Adriel seemed to like that one too.
