Beer Me!

As it is Friday, the other thing that comes to mind besides music(next week's column will be back to its regular day), is beer...sweet, luscious beer.

Living in the Pacific Northwest, it's everywhere. You can't throw a rock without hitting a relatively decent beer. And even if it's not from this area, chances are there's some pub or shop selling beers of the world!

As a bit of fun, I am curious...what are your favorite beers?

Some of mine are: Guinness, Newcastle Brown Ale, Pyramid Hefeweizen, Mendocino Brewing Company Red Tail Ale, Red Hook Blonde Ale and Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout.

Ah yes, I've heard of Blue Moon. I wonder if the orange thing is common with Belgian beers...I was reading this past weekend about Hoegaarden(probably spelled wrong) and how it's a witbier(I think) and that it was brewed with Curacao orange and coriander. I thought that sounded interesting.

Any of the German wheat beers float my boat being a good Bavarian German in the family tree.

(Kreitner)

I too love David Hasslehoff!

Kern said...

I take my Hasslehoff with a slice of orange.

Oh, I also like Boddingtons and Tetleys. Boddingtons on tap is especially cool, due to its nitro smoothness. Tetleys is a nice malty little number.

Wheat beers also rule. Do you have a particular brand of hefeweizen you like? Hef runs like water out here...

KJ-Are you around today?

mmmmmm beeeeeerrrrr

I second buttercup. Beer.

Hello...I am sitting in my office, surrounded by computer equipment and boxes full of my stuff and suffering from half-time employee syndrome (too much work to be done in 20 hrs/week).

Anyway...now that I am dreaming of cold beer, I'll add my 2 cents worth. Oh and I personally don't like fruit slices in my beer - I am little too redneck for that fanciness.

Favorites: Amber Bock, Boulevard Wheat, Bud Light (with my dad after some good old work on the farm), and anything with strange names like Dead Guy Pale Ale.

Dead Guy! That's one from up in my area, from the Rogue Breweries. I visited the Rogue brewery when I was in high school, which caused mixed emotions. One the one hand it was cool to see it, and on the other I was too young to get served.

I don't care for that particular ale so much, but Rogue Honey Cream Ale is great, and they have a nice Amber. There are some other interesting ones they put out recently that were Iron Chef themed. One of them is a buckwheat ale which sounds kind of interesting.

I tend to favor the darker beers in general, myself. Huzzah for a good stout!

KJ-Will you be having your beer off of the stomach of Ashton Kutcher again, or do you have a second celeb to drink beer off of?

krysta jo said...

For beer I definitely prefer the country artists Dierks Bentley or Chris Cagle (who once sweat on me). Usually they are not available so I just drink it out of the bottle.

If you order a bottled beer, why mess with the glass?

Kern said...

Yeah, I never pour bottled beer into the glass unless it's a really high end number that begs to be poured into a certain shape glass.

Speaking of country artists, I wouldn't mind drinking a beer off of any part of the lovely Neko Case. MMMMMM....Neko.

Speaking of which, I don't know whether you download much music or not, but I found a sweet site called emusic.com. It's like iTunes for independent records. They have a trial going on right now where you get 50 free downloads(the equivalent of 5 records or so)during the trial, and if you quit in the two week trial, they don't charge yr credit card and you get to keep all the free stuff you downloaded. The reason I bring it up, is that there are 3 Neko albums on there, including The Tigers Have Spoken(live album) as well as a plethora of sweet alt-country stuff from labels like Yep Roc and Bloodshot, and Anti.

Worth a look if you'd like free records!

My Favorites:
Fat Tire
Sweetwater
Newcastle

Kern said...

c7c2: Very interesting. I've never heard of that one before. What's the country of origin?

Fat Tire is a good one as well. Never heard of Sweetwater. What's that?

Black Butte Porter, Deschutes Brewery

Kern said...

Black Butte's a good one. Are you from the Pacific NW, Fozcorp?

Kern said...

Beer can be a harsh beast if not handled carefully...what were you drinking last night?

Kern said...

Ooh, now those hurt. I can't do those kinds of things anymore. I kind of have to stick to the old standbys.

urnotme said...

Queen B what is up??

Should have entered the Garage Sale sweepstakes!! It was crazy.

My favorite beer is Original Coors. Partly because I try to act white trashy and mostly because I am white trashy.

lol anyway

I love beer a lot, but my favorit alcohol by far is Cabernet Wine..

Keronzo- I'm not really going to be able to enjoy the music on here until later this weekend. I'll let you know what I think then. Do you blog on the weekends at all or do you just do this at work?

Oh yeah. You asked me a while ago about specialty beers and where to order kegs- if you tell me some brands or whatever I'll call around and find it(them) for you.

let me know what's up

Also- I just got back from 1/2 price bookstore and I picked up Harvey Danger for a buck. I never listened to the album way back when they had that damn flagpole song so I thought I'd check it out. Just wondered if anyone ever thought they were worth a shit or not.

krysta jo said...

FYI - HyVee in Ames sells some different beers in kegs. Totally depends on what you are looking for.

URNOTME - if only you lived in my trailer park then you could definitely count as white trash. There is a really junky trailer for sale right now that has a hot tub on the deck. Granted, when you are in the hot tub, you are less than one foot from your neighbor's bedroom window, but that's what trailer life is like. Are you interested?? :)

urnotme said...

dude i am so interested

I love how people can afford hot tubs but not houses.. don't you think you should maybe save the money??

Are you saying you've been in the hot tub? Is that the type of girl you are?

JJ

krysta jo said...

I have not been in that particular hot tub, but let's just say that I am well acquainted with hot tubs in general.

My favorite trailer park tenant is the guy who drives a new Hummer and his license plate says RUFFNIT. If you come visit me in the 'hood, then you'll realize that 99% of the people in the park drive cars worth way more than their houses.

urnotme said...

That's so frickin' weak. Who the hell drives a hummer anyway?

So maybe you and jerry should get together- you both are happy trailer owners.

By the way is it hooked up to your 'stang or do you just leave it in the park?

krysta jo said...

Ahhh yes but my 'stang is still sitting at the Ford dealership. It won't actually become mine until Spring 06.

However, I do occasionally attach my trailer to the good old plastic Saturn and take 'er for a ride. We have lots of fun stories. One day we even raced the Oscar Meyer weiner-mobile.

urnotme said...

LOL awesome

Im just joking yo

But I did think you had a mustang, sally

Kern said...

Urnotme: Thanks for checking about the beer, that would be awesome!

I do blog on the weekends, though it normally seems that most of the Damfino contingent seems to do their blogging during the week.

Harvey Danger still plays around here as they are a local band. I never really listened to them, but they seemed to be relatively popular around here. I never got into them. I get the impression they weren't very talented.

krysta jo said...

Nahhh the mustang dream is to get the new convertible (with zero miles on it) as a reward for finally finishing my damn thesis.

Alex - some of us shy away from the computer on weekends in favor of relaxing our eyes and also to hide from our bosses.

Kern said...

Ah. Well, I love my computer and often spend time with it in lieu of human companionship. Well, not with it...you know what I mean.

urnotme said...

Keronzo- yeah I figured that about Harvey Danger.. But I'll give them a shot..

Let me know what brand you want me to check out. And again what day you're going to be back. I could go check thru the threads but that would be too much effort and I'm a lazy white trash bastard...

what's up with this white trash thing? Maybe cause I've been sitting in 1000 degree temp in a effin garage all day? Naaaa

Trailer Krysta- Thesis? What's that?

Just joshin'

Hopefully talk to ya'll before Monday... stay true... or is so true?

whatever

Urnotme: The Kern Returns on July 15th. There will be a flyer I made going around that says as much. Also notable about said flyer is the prominent use of a young Don Knotts for decorative purposes.

F*ckin' Don Knotts! He's a pimp!

Beers I think would be awesome, whether in keg form or not, would be Newcastle Brown, any kind of good Hefeweizen...hmm...I'm so stuck on regional stuff here I don't know if they'd have it there. Brands like Pyramid, and Widmer. Fat Tire is pretty decent. I'll have to think about it some more...

So true, so true.

Kern said...

KJ-When do you leave for NO again?

krysta jo said...

July 16 I believe. I cannot wait. I so need a break!!!

Kern said...

So true, so true.

I know the feeling. There are a couple of things I could use a break from(wankers clogging the queue with nonsense).

It's too bad you couldn't make out that Friday night before you leave. I'll still have that glossy 8 X 10 for you!

Kern said...

Er...that was meant to say "make it out". As in to the party. Oops.

krysta jo said...

I was not invited to the party. But I might could swing it.

Kern said...

I think it was because we thought you were going to be gone. But it should be awesome!

krysta jo said...

Maybe...if you are all lucky, I may show up at this illustrious party. But...only if you are lucky.

urnotme said...

This effin Eddie Lampert guy kills me

Kern said...

Yes, he kills me too. But not in a good way.

So true, so true.
