Was a very good day...

Some days come and go without any real impact - others hit you but suck the life out of you... then you have some days that just end up being perfect.

Yesterday was just my day!

Here's the rundown;

Cara and I tried out a church in downtown Des Moines - it was a big old column having Methodist place with huge stained glass windows and a dome! I got to rip up some killer hyms and skipped out on the offering. Actually, the coolest part was we were running late and Cara somehow got us from West Des Moines to downtown within 4 minutes - that impressed the hell outta me!

Next up was a visit from my cousin Jeremy - it was his birthday. I ran out early and picked up two stellar gifts; 2 episodes of Kung Faux and the first season of Crank Yankers. Comedy gold that Jerm would truly appreciate.

Fast forward to Iowa game time! I watched the first half over at my grandmother's then ran quickly to the store to buy the food for Sopranos - then somehow got back home after missing only a minute of the game.

And then there was the win itself - which felt oh sooooooooo good! I hate OSU! Not only did we beat them - and also win the Big Ten Championship... but we knocked them out of the 1 seed in the NCAA and also earned a 3 seed for ourselves. I am getting that happy feeling again just thinking about it!

Then came dinner - Cara helped me with most of it - but the screwups were all me. I burnt the bread and burnt the Mozarella covered Cavatelli! But after cutting off the burnt top of the bread, it worked fine... and the burned Cavatelli was the dish that everyone loved and ate. Who knew?

Finally, came 8 pm. Wow - WOW!!! What a fantastic first episode! We have to keep things general here for the Kreitner clan who won't pony up for HBO - but we can say this, things are definitely rolling already for Tony and his crew. Dan claims he called the ending at Grandma's earlier in the day... but I did not hear him!

The episode was one of their best - tons of great scenes and shocking stuff.

Everyone bolted after Sopranos and Devin returned about 10pm - then I proceeded to watch the episode again with him.

The topper of the entire day was the news from Mom - the Fryes called to let us know Frye Camp is on this year - and we get all three cabins, the entire camp - to ourselves!!! RIGHT ON!!!!

Man - what a good day!!!

Yo

Sweet candy, mate.

Did those yousendit links work? Got some more stuff lined up for you by the way.

Also, this was a relatively good weekend for the Kern, who went out on a very decent date with a very lovely, lovely lady.

I love alliteration.

So, this one was not a whale... and did not make Star Wars references?

Kern said...

You are correct sir. She's actually thirteen kinds of awesome. Essentially, she's my dream girl.

I am crossing my fingers that nothing Kern-esque happens this time.

way to go Kern. Girls are good

I should start using that as an adjective. It's kind of like Kafka-esque, though instead of bizarre situations which are absurd on their face, a Kern-esque occurance deals more with scathingly random and unlucky chance creeping into what might either be a nice or at least normal moment for a person, duly fucking things up royally despite the fact that said occurance is so random and ridiculous that it sounds fictional unless you know me.

BC - did you just drop a psuedo-lesbian comment on a Monday morning?

Jeez man... I am ready for this sorta thing.

Bravo Alexxx, keep the inner Kern at bay and just entertain her with your off-kilter charm.

Ooh - and show her your manly flat stomach!

Kern said...

Thanks BC! I am crossing my fingers. It's been a while since I've had some good luck in that department. Actually, I'm not quite sure when I ever did, but I seem to remember glimmering hopes at certain points.

I heart girls! (Despite what Deit might say...)

Kern said...

Um, yeah about the flat manly stomach. It's been on hiatus a while. I need to get it back together. I'm trying to keep that in check.

Yes, on the off kilter charm though. Is it a good sign if you talk in a coffee shop for 4 and a half hours on a first date?

Damfino said...

That it is my friend... tell us more about her after the second date (or now if you wish... but I don't want to jinx anything!).

Hey, what's wrong with Star Wars references?!?!?! Or Star Trek references?!?!?!

Great sounding weekend, Damfino!

" ... skipped out of the offering." I'm giving you the "glare laugh" - laughing (because it's damn funny and something I would do then latter boast about) and giving you the "you're naughty" glare at the same time. The glare is barely a glare, though. :)

Go Hawks! Man, ole' ISU really disapointed me - both men and women. I caught the men's Big 12 tourney game early in the 2nd half, they were down 18. Rolled my eyes flipped back to Star Trek: The Next Generation. Flipped back later just to see how things were going, and ISU was only down 8! Stayed, saw them play some good ball, start to close the gap, realized they were within 3 only to see them totally fall apart, choke, and blow it. Yes, I did say "choke" then "blow it". Ahem. And, just read that the ISU men weren't invited to any post-season play. Sadly, no surprise to me, though.

So, now I have to live this year's NCAA men's tourney through my sister school. (Hmmm: live the men's tourney through the sister school?)

Teams will be picked for the women's tourney tonight @ 7PM EST. Don't know if the ISU women have a shot. Guess we'll see!

When you go camping, Damfino, don't forget joraht. Oh! Verification word strikes two times in one day! (I read it like "your 'at" -> "your hat".)

I say "hazzza" for you Kern.

J, glad to hear your day went well.

Go Hawks!

Oops, forgot: Go, Kern! Like Damfino said, not to jinx anything, but sounds good thus far! Hope she's at least 13 kinds of good! Here's to 14 and more!

Kern said...

I tend to feel everything regarding the ladies and me is pre-jinxed, so it probably doesn't hurt to tell you about her. I am already worried about the competition(because it's online dating).

Anyhow, her name is Lindsay, she's 25, she moved here from Montana a year and a half ago. She's funny, smart, artistic, and super cute. She likes foreign films, and Camus and photography(she majored in it). She's a nanny and she's really excited about the kids she takes care of, and despite the fact I'm not a kid person, her enthusiasm is infectious. She and I have similar dating backgrounds, kind of late starters, and both have a bit of trepidation about online dating.

Other than that, I don't know what else to say, other than I really dig her, and I want to see her again.

Flop-The thing about Star Wars refs has to to with an excruciating date I had last summer. I wrote about it for the Damfinoblog last summer, and in retrospect it's quite amusing despite its despicable nature. Look it up in the June or July archives under Taking one for the Team. Funny.

That's a Kern-esque situation to a T.

Damfino said...

Little Lyndsay!! Yummy.

Foreign films and Camus!!! Now I am completely turned on!

Or wait... that's just gut rot from lunch. Sorry.

She sounds right up your alley my man.. now go do some c*ck push-ups and keep her into you!!

Flop - you have a powerful glare... especially when your pants are down. Makes me run in fear!

Damfino said...

Oh - and Sheriff - "Generic additional cop comment Brian!"

Kern said...

Wow, that was so awkwardly worded, it could have been said by Tobias Funke. Speaking of which, Lindsay mentioned her sadness at the passing of AD.

The perfect girl? It may be so...

Would cock pushups be called "cock-ups"? Inquiring minds...

Kern said...

I am a little worried that I will not be able to "keep her into [me]". The world of online dating is like fucking Highlander. There can only be one.

Statistically speaking, from past experience it's not looking good for yr man.

But I will try anyhow. Because that's what I do. Try even in the face of swift and cruel rejection.

Hello my name is Kern and I am an overthinking dater....

Hi, Kern....

Dude, I thought Jed was the only overthinking dater on the blog...2, 3, 4.....

Women can't fake 4 hour coffe shop convo...I don't care how orgazmic the scones are!

Relax, be you and make me, ummm, us proud.

b.o.

ps: "Hey everyone, here's Tina"

pss: Jed is doing well with his current gal so far....kudos...

Kern said...

Sheriff-You're absolutely right. I'm going to turn on that Kern charm(or reasonable facsimile thereof) and woo the hell out this girl!

As soon as I figure out how...

krysta jo said...

Sheriff -- you're killing me today.

Damfino said...

Now that is the Sheriff I know and love... and ackwardly hug too long.

Loved the "glare ... pants" comment, D. Loved it so much I don't have a witty response. :(

Wow, Kern, the "Linds-meister" liked and was also saddened by AD's (maybe temporary?) passing?!?!? Damn! A keeper this one sounds like!

I've read the main post and a couple of comments of the "Taking One For The Team" post. Great stuff! This date sounds like the polar opposite!

Loved the Highlander comment, too, Kern! In this case, though, you don't want her to cut off your head (ahem), you want her to do other things to it instead... Giggidy giggidy!

"You know Brian, just because you can't feel your teeth doesn't mean the girl can't feel your insults."

Kern said...

Flop-Glad you're enjoying the witty flavor of Taking One For The Team. Yeah, Lindsay definitely is one for the books. I am dedicated to the idea of winning her over at any cost. Minus getting my head cut off of course.
