The end of the world as we know it...

Somewhere between the booze, boys, and bands, summer has slipped into a black hole and disappeared. So...in true form of the Damfinoblog, I present you with my top summer events.

1. Motley Crue. What can I say? Tommy Lee's abs were amazing. Oh and just so everyone knows, when they set off the fire on stage, we were close enough to feel the heat. And..by the way, the cigarette toting junkie behind us was smoking alternative plants. The concert totally rocked - over 3 hours of loud guitars and drums and some really old guy (Vince) screaming "AHHHH" into the microphone. Therefore, it was super easy to sing along.

2. Iowa State Fair. The people were fantastic and pulled out all the stops when getting properly dressed for the best state fair in the world. I have to admit though, the food is better in Minnesota and their slogan, "The great Minnesota Get together" is better than ours. But...the butter cow, beer, beef sandwiches and Brad Paisley made up for it. Let's not forget that Keith Urban was also wonderful and totally rocked out .... at one point he was singing me love songs and the world disappeared. Ahhhhh......

3. Dan Band. Good time. Watch their Bravo special if you can. Funny....great dancers, but way too many people crammed in one bar at one point in time.

4. 4th of July. Where else can you see everyone you ever met and went to school with? At the 4th of July watching the big tractors roll through town during the parade. The band at the bar was good. The homemade pie was unbelieveable and the weather was nice. However, it is an interesting social study because anyone who has EVER had any connection with the small town shows up just for this one day. That did lead to seeing some people from the past who can stay in the past, but you'll have that.

5. Middle River, Minnesota. And...to wrap it all up, the trip last weekend to Middle River. It's a town of 300 people who all care about each other and spread gossip like wild fire. However, since it is so close to Canada, I got to see much of the great state of Minnesota and quite a bit of wild life.

Anyway....hope you all had a great summer too and send happy studying thoughts my way so that by next summer I have two degrees and a damn job.

I'm so disappointed that The Kern Returns shindig is not on anyone's list. Ouch, kids.

I'll get my list a bit later. Swamped currently.

Kern said...

Oops. I rescind my statement. Read too fast. Apologies all around.

Kern said...

Oh and new reviews up today. Jed, I think you'll be particularly interested.

krysta jo said...

1. Blew up my microwave
2. Dirty feet in New Orleans
3. Too much stress at work
4. Forgetting the Kern Returns on my list

Ok those are my bad things about summer - really haven't been too many...

Ain't Right said...

It's kind of funny, the Iowa State Fair makes both my best of and my worst of summer lists.

Ain't Right said...

I hope that's the best of list.

Damfino said...

The fair is definitely on the worst list.

Wendy's birthday bash nearly made the cut on my best list. Nothing beats drunken croquet.

krysta jo said...

The fair ROCKS...I don't see why it can't be on both the best and the worst...

Kern said...

Ok, I know everyone's been waiting for my list. Well, not really, but it makes me feel important. So here goes:

1. The Kern Returns
2. Celebrating the birthdays of two close friends here
3. Writing my first piece of fiction in seven years
4. Starting Listen, Listen, Listen...etc.
5. Making the acquaintance of the fine people of the Damfinoblog(but not meeting them all yet. Must still meet Sheriff, Buttercup, and Deit in person)

Damfino said...

What about the spooning of the people of Damfinoblog? No love Kern!!!

Kern said...

Perhaps I wasn't specific enough in the use of the term "making the acquaintance of". Spooning included. I get to be big spoon next time, however, Mr. Sensitive.

Also Jed, have you read today's review. It's a fun one and it deals tangentially with film scores.

Excellent review good man - comments on your page.

I can hear some classic Italian grooves running through my mind... makes me eager for a beer and a cigar!

krysta jo said...

Nice list Kern.

Kern said...

Ahthankyou...

krysta jo said...

Damfino said...

Was that just a scene from PREDATOR?

anytime....

krysta jo said...

Since I haven't EVER seen that movie...probably not. But good try.

Jed, I can tell you most of what I have on vinyl is available on CD as well.

You should haul yourself over to Dusty Groove America and look under the the CD section of Now Sounds under VA or Compilations. I forget how they set it up. There are awesome descriptions that would be able to guide you into making prudent choices. Let me know what you think.
