Plans For the 4th?

Hey everyone. I saw there was no post up yet, so I thought I would throw something up for the hell of it. I think I might be attending the Vintage Races this weekend with my Dad, but other than that, I have no clue.

What's everyone else doing this weekend? Anything fun?

Hey Kern
Looks like it's just me and you. Just the two of us.
Building castles in sky
Just the two of us
You and I

Ugh, what?

Sorry, my bad.

What are the Vintage Races?

I think the wife and I will join my Mother and Stepfather and Stepsister for some Jet Ski action on the 4th. Catch the fireworks in Urbandale(they're always the best) and hopefully grill out sometime. And of course some brews.

Urnotme! I missed you yesterday, mate.

The Vintage Races are south of Seattle, and it's an assembly of different classes of cars(I think the classes are based engine type and size, and are capped at a certain year, I think being 1969 or 1970 to be considered vintage.)

The last time I went the B class had a race consisting of several 60's Porsches, Vettes, Mustangs, I believe a couple of early model Coopers, and even the relatively rare Ford Falcon. It's pretty cool overall, but I don't know if I can do it all day long.

They also have some of the cars on display where you can see them up close. Such as certain Mustangs and Lolas, etc.

Hey thanks. Yesterday was pretty crazy.

The vintage races sound SO cool. I wish they had things like that here in DSM. This is Iowa and people don't like to experience new or exciting things.

I have yet to listen/sample your picks yet, but it is on my list for today. However, I did read your review. You should submit these or something to some music site or mag-they are really good!

The review on The Fiery Furnaces has me stoked to check them out. I hope it's not just due to all the references you made to Jack and the stripes.

Right now I'm watching Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Ever seen it?

I didn't really get that movie urnotme, but I think my lack of attention span for anything over 25 minutes caused the real problem. I should probably re-watch.

Weekend plans - Dan's coming into town tonight so we're going to do random stuff - may hit up a winery, probably play mini-golf, watch movies, drink beers on patios, and then go home (to my parents' house) for the 4th and watch the parade (complete with tractors and horses) and the fireworks.

Whatup Krysta Jo- that sounds like a well planned and fun weekend. Especially the winery!

I just finished the movie and absolutely loved it! Loved it. Kate Winslet was great. Jim Carrey was terrific. Just a wonderful overall film. I can't complain.

krysta jo said...

Yeah I love wine and any place that hands out samples is a good place in my mind. We'll see if we get there or not. I am definitely going to test his mini-golf skills - if he sucks, he's out the door.

urnotme said...

Funny. Surely he can offer more for you than a good game of mini-golf!

here's hoping he wipes the floor with you-lol

krysta jo said...

HA HA. Actually he's great but it just makes me laugh to tell him that!!!

Kern said...

I loved Eternal Sunshine! That movie was very cool. It took me a bit to get into it, but once I began to get my head around it, it was great.

I'm going to play some mini-golf soon for my friend's birthday in a couple of weeks after I come back from DM. I am totally rusty though.

Urnotme: If you think the vintage races sound cool, you'd really dig my dad's car he's been working on. It's a Shelby Mustang, 1966 GT Fastback. I can probably get some pics before I come back. It's a devil machine!

krysta jo said...

Alex...please bring photos. The mention of that car just makes me begin drooling.

I am so pissed - my mom drives a 2001 mustang convertible and she has already announced she will NOT participated in a drag race with me when I get my car. What a jerk.

Kern said...

Hmm. Yes, I will attempt to use the power of my new digital camera to get some pics to bring back. I may put them in an album on Shutterfly for ease of use, and people can just go online and see them. It's black and gold, and damned scary. I have been in it once, and I thought a change of pants was potentially going to be in order.

Kern said...

Did you say yr getting a new car, KJ?

krysta jo said...

Not til next spring. I have GOT to get out of school and that involves the dreaded thesis. So...I continue to shop around but am not getting serious about a purchase until I have that signed form and know that my future is awaiting me.

Kern said...

What's your thesis about?

Kern said...

You're a lot closer than I am to where you want to be. I still have to finish my English BA to even think about going to get my MLIS.

krysta jo said...

I am investigating the need for technical writers to be adept at public communication as well as technical writing. It is supposed to fit the requirements for both of my degrees (Journalism and English) so we'll see. It's actually getting fairly boring but that may be because I haven't looked at it since May 15.

krysta jo said...

Oooo Master of Library Sciences. Sounds interesting. I am now regreting entering two programs that require theses. I should have sought out a degree with a non-thesis option. Would have been much more fun.

urnotme said...

Kern, what an awesome car! How could you only muster one chance of being in that car?

urnotme said...

You know Kern, I'm listening to all of the Ryan Adams songs I have downloaded and I don't mind some songs from his other albums. They're actually pretty good. For instance Touch, feel and lose from Gold and World War 24 from Love is hell pt.1 are both very good listens!

Kern said...

Urnotme: The car scares me a little, and he doesn't take it out too often. It's a beast, a pure f**ing beast!

And as for Ryan, that's cool that you found other Ryan you like ok. I think there are a couple of songs on Gold that aren't bad, despite the fact I'm not into the record that much. I think you should look up the song "What Fools We Are As Men". Don't know which album that's on though.

Kern said...

KJ-If I remember, Library Science has some really oddball stuff to do in lieu of a thesis.

Kern said...

You know who we haven't seen in a while? Eddie Lampert. Not that I'm complaining mind you.

So true, so true.

krysta jo said...

That is amazing. :)

At this point they ought to just hand over the damn degrees - I have worked plenty hard enough over the past years.

Kern said...

Yeah. Give 'em Hell, KJ!

urnotme said...

I haven't found that song yet, but I won't give up.

Yeah where the hell is Eddie?

Kern said...

Urnotme, I think it's actually called The Fools We Are As Men if it helps. I have the song on a mix my friend Tony made me. I can bring it with, if you can't find it. Apparently it was only available on the first pressing of Gold, with the included bonus EP called Side 4.

Yeah, I'm cool with not seeing him about. Last time he just wandered in a dropped a lyrical turd on us on walked out.

krysta jo said...

Eddie's a classie fella. I think back over our time together quite fondly.

Kern said...

I'd love to hear about one of those special moments...

Kern said...

So true, so true.

krysta jo said...

Alex, have you been spending time in Gutter Jed's home again? We all need to stay out of there. It's a bad bad place.

Kern said...

Who said a special moment had to be dirty?

Kern said...

I think maybe you've been spending too much time with Jed, perhaps...I meant it in a relatively innocent way.

I'm a closet gutter mind. I normally hide it well, unless in the right situation.

krysta jo said...

It's Friday - the gutter-ness in me has risen to the top.

Kern said...

It's fun to be more gutter on the weekends.

krysta jo said...

Definitely and I am one hour away from being off for the weekend.

Kern said...

Damn, that's awesome. I still have a few to go. That makes me sad.

krysta jo said...

Everyone --- have a fabulous holiday weekend.

'Til Tuesday!!

I'm out...(much like a fat girl playing dodgeball)

Kern said...

Bye KJ.

Urnotme, are you still around somewhere?

urnotme said...

I'm around now, but you're probably gone.

Hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend!

See ya all Tuesday
