Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a fun and safe Holiday weekend!

The wife, family and I all checked out Oceans of Fun this weekend and had a grand time. We even brought something back to Iowa for us to enjoy and pamper at our leisure: Sunburns. Ugh. When we first arrived it was raining and cold with no sign of it letting up, but eventually it subsided and everyone had a wonderful day. I would have liked to post some pics, but when we were packing we realized we loaned it to Jed so Hopefully he's putting it to good use in Minnesota.

Speaking of Damfino- he called yesterday as we were leaving to check out some fireworks and seems to be doing well and having fun. It was kind of hard to really tell due to the cell phone constantly cutting out, but I would assume ( I know, I know it's the mother of all fuck ups) he wouldn't call unless he wanted to rub in how much of a good time he was having at camp.

Also, we all checked out the Urbandale fireworks show last night and although it kind of sucked (which is unusual for Urbandale) there was an amazing ending. They started the finale and all of a sudden the fireworks started shooting into the crowd. Everyone that was laying in the grass jumped to their feet and started running. It was actually pretty scary and I hope nobody was hurt, but I'm truly doubting it.

How was everyone else's?

Urnotme,

Glad to know I wasn't the only cat to catch a burn this weekend. I got the mother of sunburns at the Vintage Races on Sunday. Stupid me for not wear proper sunscreen, and being so damned pasty. I do have some pics of cars on display at the races and a couple of not as great as I'd hoped pics of my Dad's Shelby GT 350. They should be up tomorrow, so fantasize and drool until then.

By the by, how long till a sunburn subsides? I haven't been in the sun for so long, I don't remember how long it takes for one to go away...

Sup Kern,

I don't know how long they last. A few days maybe? I've had mine since Sunday and I actually used a ton of sunscreen. I think It was 45 proof or whatever it's called.

Yeah you gotta put up some pics. I take it it was a good weekend?

Besides the sunburn it was cool. I saw some very interesting cars out there tearing it up, but the big show was the big bore class. Corvette roadsters, Sixties Porsches(I want to say Porsche 356's but as you'll be able to see tomorrow, my car identifying skills are bloody awful), several Shelby GT 350's, Jaguar E-types, three Ford Falcons(one of which I got a great shot of) and an AMC Javelin for laughs.

Also saw some old school Coopers, as well as a few other things in a different class. One of my favorites was watching the Historic Formula Fords(open wheel cars) running a split race with another sports class. Can't wait to get the pix up tonight. I wish the pix of my dad's ride were better, but it was on the hydraulic lift at the time, so it was a little more difficult to get a good shot. I'll see what I can do about procuring more shots of it later.

Wow. That sounds cool. I'm not very good at id'ing cars as well.

I'm not working today so I should probably get something done to appease the wife. I think I'll go semi-clean the garage and then waste the afternoon playing pool and maybe grab some wine and watch Sideways again.

I think I need to buy some Aloe vera again. Damn, I really hope this burn subsides pretty soon. I don't want to look all jacked up coming back to see everyone.

KJ-Are you around?

I am here now. Let's see...sunburn remedies. Buy some Bactin. You can get it near the Aloe section of Target - anything that has that kind of thing in it will help ease the pain of a sunburn. Then slather yourself with aloe (don't get the gel). It'll definitely be gone before you get here - if it isn't, you need a doctor.

My weekend was fabulous as well, though I do not have a sunburn. I do have quite a few bug bites though from the parade and fireworks.

I'm going to go to the drugstore at lunch to find some aloe that is not a gel. I tried that the other day after I got the burn, and it was less than helpful, in my opinion. Then I read I'm not supposed to use anything with benzocaine, or lidocaine, because it disrupts healing. Of course, Solarcaine, the stuff I had been liberally applying, has lidocaine in it. Go me.

Hopefully I can find something that works, and I'll be back to my old pasty self by the time I reach everyone.

Oh, and KJ, there were some sweet Shelby GT 350s. Pics tomorrow!!!

Oh, and we need details about yr weekend with Dan.

krysta jo said...

Definitely cannot wait to see the pics. We priced out 2005 Mustangs on Sunday afternoon. I'm getting antsy!!

The weekend with Dan was really good. We didn't do a whole lot, but I did kick his butt at mini-golf. He had a hard time keeping his ball out of the lake. Oops! Oh if only gutter Jed was here. We spent yesterday with my family and it appeared that my dad and Dan got along rather well so that makes me happy. He just left about an hour ago so he had time to stop at Cabela's on his way home.

What all do you want to know?

urnotme said...

Hey Yos
I am bored out my freakin' mind

I'm thinking about watching closer
Anyone seen it?

Recomendations?

Oh, should I watch Closer or the Girl Next Door?

Kern said...

I loved Closer. A lot. But, be forewarned, it's a bit of a downer. I don't know why, but movies like that are some of my favorites. Blunt, brutal witty dialogue. It's harsh to be sure.

KJ-Did he do anything particularly romantic or cool?

krysta jo said...

I haven't seen Closer, but unless the girl next door is doing aerobics without clothes on, I would go with the movie. Oh wait...sorry...scratch that last part.

He was nice to my freaky sister and ... when she asked him if he was one of the midgets in the Wizard of Oz, he threw down his putter and did the Lollipop Guild song and dance in the middle of the mini-golf course. It was hilarious. (She's 6'3" and he's about 5'7"). He's actually always cool and relatively romantic. It's rather refreshing to know that even though he lives three hours away, I have nothing to worry about with us.

Maybe urnotme wouldn't be so bored if he kept in touch with his friends.

urnotme said...

Hello Jennifer.

(Think Seinfeld)

BTW
Krysta that was hilarious. We finally got the whole truth.

urnotme said...

I'm running out of time to watch a movie. I just got back from HIV and only have 2 hours before the wife gets home. So either I forget the housework that's needed and watch the movie or look for my neighbor.
Hmmm.

krysta jo said...

For the sake of your life and your wife's voice, I would do the housework. It should make your evening more enjoyable!!!

Whole truth??

Kern said...

KJ- That thing Dan did at the mini-golf sounds like the coolest response to a question like that ever. Ever!

Urnotme: Yeah, you might want to do the housework. For the sake of peace in our time.

krysta jo said...

I have never laughed so hard in my life. It was great! He randomly comes up with stuff like that. Oh and then on Sunday night we got back from dinner and were watching TV ... guess what was on ... The Wizard of Oz. It was too funny.

Kern said...

Yes. He sounds like a keeper.

urnotme said...

Yeah you're probably right.

Obviously Dan's you're beard.

krysta jo said...

Probably a keeper. We'll see...

Kern said...

Well, let's put it this way, KJ...yr luck in the dating pool far outshines mine by all kinds of stretches of the imagination.

Unlucky in cards, unlucky at dice, damned if I'll find a girl who's nice...

krysta jo said...

Oooo but you are a poet and that's worth a little something.

Kern said...

Yeah, you're right...

Wait, what's that worth again?

Kern said...

By the way, I got some lotion that's aloe and Vitamin E. It's smells vaguely of coconuts as well, but I highly doubt that has anything to do with its restorative properties.

Think that should help?

krysta jo said...

I believe it should. And FYI...my all-time favorite lip balm is made from coconut oil and it's restorative powers are amazing so maybe the coconut smell will help you. Remember...once the sunburn is gone, please continue to use lotion or you'll be a-peelin' like crazy.

Kern said...

Duly noted. Did I mention that I'm changing the format of my column a little?

urnotme said...

How are you changing the format?

Nothing drastic is it?

What a blah day.
Ugh

Kern said...

It's going to be a review per day, or maybe two. But this way it gives everyone something to read everyday, but it also keeps the posts relatively short unlike that catastrophe when I basically rewrote War and Peace last week. But the quality of writing such as it is, hopefully won't change, unless I'm just plain off. But then it's on me, not the format.

Sound cool?

urnotme said...

Yeah man that sounds cool.

So, when you go about reviewing do you go through your CD collection or do you go from memory or what? Do you have every CD that you review?

Kern said...

So far everything I have reviewed has been something that I own, and have enjoyed listening to. Sometimes it's hard to think of things to fit into a theme, but it's really hard when there's very few things and everything I think of that could fit is not something I really like all that well. There are a few themes I'll be doing soon, but didn't want to do yet as I haven't been able to really listen to some of the albums in full. Good case in point is the Psychedelic rock theme I want to do soon. There are some bands I know of that would most likely be great, but I cannot in good conscience tell people to run out and get an album that I've only heard is good. There are a lot of CD's I'd love to do, but I just don't have them.

That said, there are also a group of them that I like but have to listen to two or three times as I write the review so I remember them well enough to talk about them. Hope you like the one this morning!
