It's all Ka!

rosefield

The journey has ended - last night I finished the final installment in the Dark Tower series. As I read the final Author's Note from King, a sadness washed over me. I had been dreaming of the end since I was a young reader - seeing how Roland would battle his way into the Tower... and who would be left standing with him.

My sadness was in one part due to the conclusion of the book - an ending that was at once tragic and frustrating... but I was also sad because I had reached an end in my life. A moment when the dreams of my youth were shown to be... old. Reality hit... and the sad fact hit me that in the end... there is no perfect summation for us.

If any of you ever has the guts to tackle this 3000+ page tale... take your time. Let your own mind take the stories and play with them... for the end is not the goal.

So it is time for my world to move on... to step through the next door (perhaps into the Lady of the Shadows!) and find a new world to dream of.

I say thankyee!

You are truly pathetic Jed. I am so disapointed in you I can even express it into words correctly. I mean you deleted that whole thread for what?! What is this the fucking X-Files?

Damfino said...

Yes - and you are that cock-ass replacement Mulder in the last two seasons.

Play nice kids.

And a great role in Soprano's

Robert Patrick... cool in T2 - not so cool in X-Files.

Sheriff... you are wise beyond your years.

If have taken this moment while the time space contiunum has opened up to change my posting name to Greg the Bunny....blah

You can not make that assesment of him on X-Files. You did not watch. I was faithful.
He was just on that Elvis tv series. Oh yeah and that movie Fire in the Sky or something. I used to love that. I wonder if it holds up.

Hmm...is it sad the only thing about this that bums me out is that I spent 10 minutes talking about music only to realize that I can't remember what I typed 5 minutes ago to repost?

To recap: I liked Weezer at the first, then didn't like them so well, until I recently heard the Blue album again, and thought it pretty darned good. Also, I've not heard much of Pinkerton, but liked what I've heard.

The Stripes are a good band. Quite good, but I admit that I never bought into them enough to really purchase any of their albums. Same thing with The Strokes. Is This It? was a fantastic album, that showed that they synthesize their influences into a new package that is both simultaneously fresh and reverent to their idols, much as people discussed QT doing with Kill Bill. It's not so much the fact older things that have been done are being mined and reconstituted, it's about how the new package fits together.

That said...anyone else here listen to Spoon? I don't have the new one, but I have one of their earlier albums "Girls Can Tell" and it's pretty great. I have to miss their show with another band I always wanted to see live(The Clientele)because of family stuff/Father's Day this weekend.

Dammit.

And I get to go to my parent's house, where everyone's either married or living together.

Being the 7th Wheel makes me feel awesome!

Damfino said...

Sorry Kern.

Never even heard of Spoon. You are the music king - I just lay at your feet and listen.

Fire in the Sky was comedy... have not seen it in years.

Greg the Bunny - I think we are 1 of 4 people who love that show!!

Alex, You ought to have dinner with my family. My grandma insists on running down the list of us and asking us about our "special friends." Quite fantastic when you are sitting there at the kids table by yourself. But enough about that...

Jed - your childhood dreams never get old if you grasp onto them like an alcoholic having his first drink after an AA meeting.

Damfino said...

It's KJ!!!!!

Should childhood dreams really be compared to alcoholic binges?

Mayhap.

krysta jo said...

Maybe they shouldn't but that simile made me giggle anyway.

Death to statistics 401.

Kern said...

KJ-My family kind of knows better than to ask if there's someone "special" anymore. Usually if they ask I just laugh for a couple of minutes until everyone gets slightly uncomfortable and then I ask, "Oh, I'm sorry, you were serious?"

No, but honestly they don't want to rub salt in the wounds, and they know if I found someone I really liked I probably wouldn't be able to shut up about it.

Jed-I have such a short time to bring you up to speed my friend. Perhaps I will start doing a regular post on Fridays called "What Kern Is Listening To" or something like that. I can tell you what I'm listening to, and why in my oh so humble opinion, you and countless others should also give it a spin.

What do you think?

Damfino said...

That would be awesome Kern - and add a link to a clip of it... or the band's website... and some photos....

YEAH!

Kern said...

I think childhood dreams should definitely be compared to AA. That's the best thing I have heard this morning, I think.

I put Weezer, the Stripes and the Strokes all in my top ten of all time. The Strokes first 2 albums are absolutely incredible, but I can't really seem to find anyone else that really got in to them. I can't wait for their third. The analogy of the strokes to Tarantino is dead on!

I have heard a few things from spoon, but have never bought an album. May have to download today.

Fire in the sky is comedy? What-are we talking about the same movie? The guys are abducted and live to tell?

Kern said...

Sweet. I shall do just that very thing, beginning tomorrow!

Damfino said...

Comedy in the sense that it was not very good.

I dig the Strokes... just not on the urnotme level.

Kern said...

Sorry to potentially threadjack, but speaking of abduction, is anyone besides me watching the 4400?

I love that show!!! It's like early X-Files with a lot of other social, moral and political facets. One of my favorite shows right now. Rent Season 1, it's only six eps.

urnotme said...

By the way
I can totally picture sitting at a kids table (probably smaller than the adult one) and being asked that demeaning question. Total comedy. That needs to be incorporated into a movie somehow.

Damfino said...

I shoulda watched it Kern... I will try to rent.

Wasn't Bryan Singer associated with that?

krysta jo said...

Gosh Jed - can you put anymore rules on Alex's music posts?? Huh??

krysta jo said...

The worst part about "special friends" is that one of my brother's girlfriend is a "special friend" even though she's been around only a year. The other brother's girlfriend is just referred to as a "friend" despite the fact that they have been dating over 3 years. Then there's my wild and insane sister who likes to make dinner interesting with tales of the bar she works at. Makes for enlightening family dinners. I usually scarf my food and disappear during my sister's act.

urnotme said...

Awh jeez how uncomfortable. I don't think it gets worse than that unless you are forced to watch Sister Act with Whoopi Goldberg. Gawd I hate her so.

krysta jo said...

The only thing that makes Sister Act worthwhile is if somehow you make it a drinking game. Like 1 tequila shot for everytime Whoopi Goldberg says something stupid.

urnotme said...

I don't think I could make it through the opening credits. It's an awful lot of tequila.

Kern said...

You think that's bad...if you applied the rules above to her short lived sitcom you'd be in an alcoholic coma before the first commercial break.

krysta jo said...

I also like to take shots every time that Renee Zellweger makes ugly faces in her assortment of movies. Drunk before the first scene is over.

Kern said...

Ha ha...it's funny 'cause it's true...

Kern said...

I'm quite excited about this music segment...

Jed-Dumb question for you...how do I put pics up? Do I do it through the Blogger Dashboard as I make a post, or do I need to use something like Flickr like you do?

Damfino said...

When you make a post... there is a little picture icon. Click... then it gives you directions.

Essentially, you are accessing a site to host your image - then you post the html of it.

Kern said...

Interesting. Also, can I do HTML in the post as I am able to do in the comments(like the anchor tags, etc)?

Also, don't know about Singer's involvement with 4400, but I know Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope is producing.

And it's brilliant.
