GO F*CK A GOAT!!
I think it was safe to say that with our group of friends, most everyone was looking forward to The 40 Year Old Virgin. Anchorman has moved into the common vernacular in convo and Freaks and Geeks is a beloved favorite. So expectations were pretty solid for this film. And it met them well and exceeded in surprising areas.
Of course Carell is funny - and Apatow (the director and F&G and Undeclared producer) finds comedy gold in various places; crude humor, honest-yet funny moments of life - and the loving but sad view of Andy's small life (comics, video games, action figures).
Actually, the greatest element of the film was how close the characters were to our gang. There are pieces of Jerry - me - Josh in each character - and the way they spoke, riffed, made fun of one another... it all seemed very real (the guys work in an electronic store... often movies are playing and they comment on them... it is too creepy how close to us it is).
This is a safe recommendation... there is some crude humor but the film is solid - everyone will love it!
Weekend was great - had a birthday party for a friend! Drunken croquet is a blast!
Also, Greg the Bunny aired... and it was terrible. Sad to see.

Good morning all.
Hi KJ.
The question I am personally dying to know is: Is drunken croquet better than drunken four square? Because I think drunken four square would be hard to beat.
My weekend was lame. Spent a lot of time staring at blank Microsoft Word screen alternating between filling it with text, and then erasing said text because it sucked. Writing a new story is hard.
I'll be seeing the 40 Year Old Virgin this week. My only fear is that it's going to be like looking in a crystal ball, and I might run from the theatre weeping.
I mean, probably not, but you know...
Hey Kern - you could do live out the scene where Carell gets his chest manscaped!
Are you saying I'm hairy, my friend?
You have hair on your chest - that is obvious. You are no cousin it though.
Yeah, it's funny because my brother in law is always commenting on how I remind him of his dad in that regard. Apparently his dad is quite proud of his chest hair. One of my brother in law's favorite sayings to me, "Comb it out there, buddy!"
I saw flaunt it! Don't cha just wanna get a big gold necklace and let it all hang out!!
One day Jed... one day.
Oh my
You should really wax your shoulders... the hair there... well... it just aint cool.
I don't have hairy shoulders! In fact my back is relatively hair free. The chest could stand a little rip and roll, though.
Wowee!
I have hairy toes... but I think that is sexy.
Good for you. Embrace it.
By the way, I'm going to see Neko Case along with a bunch of other people tonight at an instore. I'm so excited to see the hotness and mesmerizing singing abilities of Ms. Case up close and personal. I hope I don't faint.
It's for the new New Pornographers album, which I hear is absolutely amazing. I'm hoping so.
Neko... yummy.
Kern - know who Sia is?
Sounds familiar. Was it on Six Feet Under last night?
SCORE!!!
Well done Kern. Yeah - that song is running through my head right now... with Nate running in my rear view mirror.
... i might cry....
Yeah, that was some powerful stuff. My allergies really started acting up during that sequence which you know made my eyes water uncontrollably.
Yep, that's exactly what it was. Allergies.
Speaking of wet eyes, the next story I'm working on might make a person cry. Hell, it might make me cry when I start writing it.
Is it about scoring?
I always cry when I score.
Six feet under killed me.. the montage was amazing!
Yeah, I agree. The general story is sort of a more dramatized and encapsulated version of my friendship with Jen over the course of an evening.
It's going to be another weird perspective type thing. The first half I think is going to be from her perspective, the second from the guy's perspective. She basically shows up on Christmas Eve at the theatre he works at and begs for him to take her on some errands. As they go along he's bitter and doesn't want to, but does because he can't shake the feelings he had for her, despite the fact she basically off contact from him for nine months or so. It culminates to a shocking and heartwrenching end, through his eyes.
