Lyrically Speaking

Hello. I saw that no one had posted today, and I thought I would throw something out that might be kind of fun on a Friday. I was listening to Elliot Smith yesterday, and I always seem to forget what a great writer he was. His lyrics were always amazing even if they were sad. So I thought it might be interesting for people to post a line of a song or lines of a song that really still blow them away everytime they hear them. I'll start the bidding with some lines from Elliot Smith's Condor Ave. from the album Roman Candle.

"I fell onto my knees
the sound of the car driving off made me feel diseased
a sick shouting like you hear at the fairground
now I'm picking up to put away anything of yours that's still around
I don't know what to do with your clothes or your letters
it'll make a whisper out of you"

Anyone else?

What's that from?

Ah yes, I thought it sounded familiar. Good choice!

Oh, here's one of my very favorites:

So let it build, let it explode/
Leaving blood and shattered bone/
Or bite your tongue ‘til you’ve forgotten what to say/
And take another step back, until you find you’ve walked away

Sebadoh-The Beauty of The Ride(from the album Harmacy)

Wow, that's an awesome choice!

One is a great one as well. I remember the first time I heard that song. I was 11 or 12 I think and it scared the bejeezus out of me. Not the music, because I totally got Master of Puppets right out of the box(still my favorite album), but because the thought of being in a situation like the narrator of the story just freaked me out.

I never got to see them in concert. It's kind of funny, but when I was younger I was very, very into metal, which makes people who know me know laugh a lot. I have recently taken an interest in new groups like Mastodon. They rock.

Speaking of metal...

If you like to gamble, I tell you I'm your man,
You win some, lose some, all the same to me,
The pleasure is to play, makes no difference what you say,
I don't share your greed, the only card I need is
The Ace Of Spades

Er...that was Motorhead's Ace of Spades.

Mastodon is a really intelligent, really technically proficient metal band with very interesting prog leanings in terms of odd time signatures and intricate passages. They're from Atlanta and they rock. Their new album Leviathan is amazing, and it's a concept album based on the book Moby Dick.

They're unbelievable!

It's looking that way. This kind of happens on some Fridays. I know that Jed said he had a super busy week this week or something.

I'm Alex, by the way. I'm a friend of Jed's from way back in his movie theatre days. We worked together at the Sierra 3.

Very cool. I was going to mention that I am going to be doing an more in depth examination of Mastodon on my blog in a couple of weeks, you might be interested to check it out.

Ah, that's a bummer. People have told me that some of them don't make much sense without the sound clips, which I totally get. Thanks for taking a look, though. It's awesome to know people are actually reading.
